What Is Color Depth?
Color depth, also known as bit depth, refers to the number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in a display. It determines the range of colors that can be shown on the screen. Here are some common color depths:
- 8-bit: 256 colors
- 16-bit: 65,536 colors (often referred to as High Color)
- 24-bit: 16.7 million colors (True Color)
- 32-bit: 16.7 million colors plus an 8-bit alpha channel for transparency
Higher color depth allows for more accurate and vibrant color representation.
